Minutes for March 26, 2009

Present: Rebecca Townsend, Cathy Orne, Jo Cameron, Bruce Cameron, Marcia Potter, Sue Carlson, Ros Strong, Ruth Bryant, Zibette Dean.

The meeting was opened at 2:06 p.m. by President Sue Carlson. Secretary Jo Cameron read the minutes of October 23 and November 28, 2008 which were approved after discussion.

Treasurer Ruth Bryant gave a starting balance of $1,685.62, interest of $4.55, for an ending balance of $1,885.17. $35.00 will be spent to renew our State incorporation.

Sue reviewed the recent hearings in re Edgecomb's comprehensive plan. She noted that the plan is being published in two volumes; the first containing policies for the town; the second comprised of data and statistics, principally from the State. The category "Historic and Scenic Resources" appears at the end of the plan, as a wrap-up of Edgecomb's vision for itself. The entire Rose-Marie Ballard inventory of historic structures has been included as 20 pages in volume 2. The EHS is committed to develop an historic and scenic overlay. Sue cited lists available from the State Historic Preservation Commission of historic industrial sites as well as prehistoric sites.

An archival question was raised, as to what parts of the comprehensive plan work should be held by EHS? It was agreed that Jackie Lowell should be consulted.

Sue announced that the Maine State Museum is looking for donations of natural history collections (bird eggs, insects, minerals...etc.)

Bruce Cameron reported on progress of the website, and passed around samples of the home page and Bicentennial publicity pages. He was advised to make the Bicentennial the first priority. Then the Ivan Flye photographs, all of those that were on the Town's website are now on edgecombhistorical.org, although the text of information, documentation and questions from the public have not been incorporated. Sue said she had more photographs to be scanned.

After that, the EHS and FOFE minutes and other materials. The Ballard inventory could be incorporated. Links can be created with the several other historical societies of Lincoln County.

Ros Strong suggested we ask the school to post a sign for Edgecomb Historical Society meetings. Also, we should ask the school for better access to and more room in the store room at the back of the library.

Jo reported that the Lincoln County 250th Anniversary planning committee plans to include a logo and "Participant in the Lincoln County 250th Anniversary" message in any publicity of the several towns' related events. She has asked permission to include this in Fort Edgecomb publicity this year.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Joanna M. Cameron

Secretary
